|Tailoring and Laundry department|
These are support services that facilitate clinical services. The Department is responsible for laundering and tailoring medical linens and staff uniforms. The department has 3 very old heavy duty / large washing machines (over 25 years old) that cannot perform effectively and efficiently and 8 small machines in good working condition (for domestic use) donated by a charity organization in Europe Eurochange. To support the 3 old large machines and 8 small ones, medical lines are first washed manually by ward staff before they are taken into the machines for thorough cleaning. The hospital however appreciates the donation given by Eurochange, for it has alleviated some of the difficulties the hospital was experiencing in relation to this particular essential function.
The activity of the department starts from receiving pre washed linen from the wards in the morning and passes through sorting, washing or dry cleaning, ironing, storing and issuing it to the wards.
Meanwhile on the other hand the tailoring section of this department is responsible for making uniforms (staff duty uniforms and patients’ uniforms); bed sheets, pillows and bed covers for the different wards; window curtains for the various departments; and repairing the tore uniforms, bed covers and pillow cases.
The in charge of the department is responsible for record keeping of all the solutions, equipments and materials used both in laundry and tailor section and also recording garments received from different departments and wards.
